Special General Meeting Info

For years, the Students' Association of Bow Valley College has proudly offered a comprehensive Health and Dental Plan to its membership at annual fees among the lowest in Alberta post-secondary, including a four-year fee freeze from 2018 to 2021.

Now, SABVC is hosting a Special General Meeting on February 16th and 17th to discuss proposed enhancements to your student health and dental plan.

What we want to add:

Vyvanse Coverage

For students diagnosed with ADHD through the SABVC Health & Dental Benefits Plan

Online Counselling

Five free sessions of online counselling. After five sessions, students can access their plan for additional sessions up to $300 per year.

Referral Bypassing

To be able to see a Massage Therapist, Physiotherapist, or Speech & Language Pathologist without a note from your doctor under your student benefits.

What this means to you:

This would mean an increase in Health & Dental fees from $298 annually to $343 annually. Because this is an increase of more than 4%, a Special General Meeting is required to gain approval of SABVC membership on this matter via a vote.

Benefit usage has increased drastically since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and SABVC has seen continual increases in overflow charges as a result. In addition to creating enhancements to the plan, this fee increase will help SABVC cover the bills that come our way every time students use their benefits.

You, the student members of SABVC, will vote to approve the proposed changes via a digital ballot sent to your MyBVC email account on February 16th.

If this fee increase is not approved, membership may be faced with fee increases of up to 4% in consecutive years, and reduced MyWellness Plan coverage. In addition, other benefits will be re-assessed and may be subject to downgrades or cuts in order for the plan to remain financially sustainable.

Join us on February 16th and 17th from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm to learn more about our plans to enhance student benefits into 2022 and beyond. You can register to join this virtual event here.
