Looking to gain experience and get paid? The Bow Valley College Library is hiring for two peer tutoring roles:


  • Peer Writing Coach

  • Math Science Peer Tutor

  • Peer Technology Assistants

  • Peer Language Coach


For Math & Science Peer Tutor / What You’ll Do


A Math Science Peer Tutor's role is to help students gain a better understanding of Math and Science course concepts. They provide help with high school Math and Science courses as well as with Nursing dosage calculations. Through one-on-one and small group work with students, the peer tutor will identify individual needs and provide strategies for understanding different course concepts. This is a paid volunteer role and will not show on co-curricular records.


  • $15 / hour

  • Up to 20 hours/week (minimum 2–6 scheduled hours/week)

  • Flexible shifts available Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • In-person on the 2nd floor of the BVC Downtown Calgary Campus Library (with some virtual options)

For Math & Science Peer Tutor / What You’ll Do


A Peer Writing Coach’s role is to work on specific questions (e.g., How can I improve my writing? What is subject-verb agreement? What are articles and where do I insert them in a sentence? What is a thesis? etc.) or parts of an assignment brought by the student. A Peer Writing Coach must commit to regularly scheduled shifts (minimum 2 hours per week) during which they will be physically located in the tutoring space inside the library, and willing to contribute to resource development if not booked by students. A Peer Writing Coach does not need to have prior knowledge of study or writing strategies, but they must be willing to learn new ones. 


DUTIES:  

As a Peer Writing Coach, you will need to:  

·         Successfully complete the online Peer Writing Coach training module 

·         Be available in person on the second floor of the Bow Valley College Library at the downtown Calgary campus for your regularly scheduled shifts

·         Be aware of the use and function of APA-style documentation
