The Students' Association of Bow Valley College [SABVC] was joined by municipal election candidates for Calgary's ward 10 on Tuesday to discuss topics pertaining to residents, stakeholders, and Bow Valley College students.

The live virtual forum lasted 90 minutes and was attended by both students and campus community partners from ward 10.

Candidates Andre Chabot, Abed Harb, Esther Sutherland, Tony Dinh, Jesse Minhas, and Mushtaq Kayani were each given the chance to explain to students why they're running for city council, and answer questions specific to the ward which spans 12 of Calgary's northeast communities.

Austin Deck, who represents SABVC as the association's Director of External Affairs, served as moderator of the forum and directed questions to candidates on topics including Indigenous reconciliation, property taxes, sustainability, public transportation, crime, students supports, and more.

"The Ward 10 Forum held by SABVC on October 12th was an amazing experience," said Deck. "Being able to provide space for the conversations between those whom are running to make our communities better and the constituents they will serve is a great reminder of the importance of all of us being engaged in our communities."

Ward 10 stakeholders can view a full video recap of the forum below, or by visiting SABVC's YouTube channel.

The Students' Association of Bow Valley College is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Iyarhe Nakoda.

We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, and the traditional Blackfoot name of this place is “Mohkinstsis” which we now call the City of Calgary.

The City of Calgary is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.
