Stress Awareness

Stress can affect anyone at any time, and will manifest itself differently for each person. What one person may be able to tolerate is not the same for another.

Stress is also not always 'bad', stress can often be useful in a variety of ways. It is when tolerable amounts of stress begin to overlap and pile on top of each other that we begin to experience negative impacts. When stress negatively effects us, we can see it cause symptoms and responses in our bodies physically, emotionally, or behaviorally.

Prolonged stress can lead to illness, and has been a known contributor to heart disease, high blood pressure, chronic illness flair ups, and more.

Stress is not avoidable. As mentioned before, there is both 'good' and 'bad' stress. A key action that can be taken is to identify stress-related problems as early as possible. This will help allow action to be taken before a serious stress-related illness occurs.

The Students' Association of Bow Valley College is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Iyarhe Nakoda.

We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, and the traditional Blackfoot name of this place is “Mohkinstsis” which we now call the City of Calgary.

The City of Calgary is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.
